La Sierra Named First Runner-up at US Championship

May 15, 2008

La Sierra University’s Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team finished as first-runner up at the United States National Championship at the 2008 SIFE USA National Exposition finals held in Chicago, Illinois, May 13-15. SIFE leaders announced the University of Arizona the champions, and La Sierra the second place finisher, during an awards ceremony that concluded the three-day event.

La Sierra University Wins World Cup

October 17, 2007

La Sierra University's Students In Free Enterprise team has won the SIFE World Cup for the second time in six years. LSU was judged to be the top presenting team in the 2007 SIFE international competition in New York City, held October 10-12.

Finishing as first runner up to La Sierra was the team representing Canada, Memorial University of Newfoundland. The other two finalists represented Albania and Nigeria.

Build-a-Village
  • Last year, we introduced our Build-a-Village project, for which the American Sudanese Partnerships invited us to create agricultural and business models for new villages that will be started in Darfur, Sudan. We began Phase I by securing a site for a demonstration village on our campus.
Get-a-Clue
  • Our "Get-a-Clue" program teaches high school students and college students how to manage their money. Using information from HSBC´s www.yourmoneycounts.com, presenters go through a 45-minute Powerpoint presentation that educates students.
The T.R.U.T.H. about Ethics
  • For this project, we created a 32-page story-coloring book that targets elementary school age children. The book translates the concept of ethics into one simple phrase: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
Welfare-to-Work
  • This legacy project now in its ninth year, teaches low-income individuals how to become childcare providers. Project partner Family Service Association of Western Riverside County teaches nine weeks on setting up a child care facility, and SIFE teaches 6 weeks on running a home-based business.
